"When behaviour feels out of control, there's usually something underneath it"

Counselling for compulsive or problematic sexual behaviours and pornography use

You might be struggling with behaviours that don't feel in your control - particularly around sex or pornography - whilst also carrying a sense of shame, secrecy or frustration about it.  You might have tried to reduce or stop, made promises to yourself, but it hasn't stayed stopped.

Usually, these patterns aren't random.  They develop over time as ways of coping, even when they're causing problems in your life or relationships.  Getting help with sex and porn addiction isn't easy, but its a step towards understanding whats driving it and finding a way through.

How I work

I offer a calm, non-judgmental space where you can talk openly and at your own pace.  I work 'integratively' which simply means I adapt counselling to you rather than using one approach.  Together, we'll look not just at whats happening, but what's driving it - making sense of patterns, relationships and emotional responses that have developed over time.  This includes exploring how past experiences and relationships continue to shape the present, as well as understanding the role that sex and porn have in your life   I'll be actively engaged with you, offering explanations  to help make sense of what’s happening in a way that feels clear and relevant.  I'll also help you make connections with things that might not feel obvious, this can be challenging, but crucial if things are to shift.

What you can expect

Counselling isn't a quick fix.  The focus will be on building a deeper understanding of yourself and crucially the function of the behaviour to help create change that lasts.  Sessions are steady, collaborative and shaped around you.  We'll work at a pace that feels manageable, with space to explore what's difficult without feeling overwhelmed.

Over time, people find that behaviors begin to make more sense, shame starts to loosen its hold, and there's more choice on how they respond.  I work 'in-person' (not online) and in Belfast.  You can read more about me, how I work and about sex and porn addiction on this website.
